3663 to stock Timestrip food safety system

3663

3663 First for Foodservice is now stocking Timestrip, a new smart labelling system, part of the unique food safety labelling range offered to customers throughout the UK.

Timestrips are patented disposable smart labels that monitor how long a product has been open or how long it has been in use. They are designed to assure the quality and freshness of food.

Conventional labelling indicated product expiry, yet once a product is opened, the product life may be substantially shortened and not apparent to kitchen staff. Timestrip enables everyone to see clearly whether such products are within date. Timestrip supplies a range of labels which are calibrated to the lifetime characteristics of different food products from 1 day to 12 months at room temperature, refrigerated or frozen.

They are very easy to use: simply peel the film off the back and stick it to the food packaging, then push the button to activate. A red liquid then starts to migrate across the window – when it reaches the end mark, the food has reached expiry and should be discarded.

The labels are temperature sensitive and run faster at higher temperature, mimicking how food goes off more rapidly if left out of the fridge.

As well as food use, the room temperature strips can also be used to indicate when air conditioning and water filters need to be replaced.

Recent trials with contract caterers have confirmed that Timestrip is a marked improvement to existing food safety systems, which typically involve either handwritten labels or the application of colour-coded labels. There is no ambiguity over product life with Timestrip. Moreover, Timestrip labels help to dramatically reduce levels of food waste by enabling staff to effectively apply first in first out principles.
